Get the Look • Dickie Greenleaf
Rhett again from RhettDidntGiveADamn, with the promised follow up to the Get the Look: Marge Sherwood. Marge has the 50's summer thing down pat, but so do the leading men in the film! In particular we're going to have a look at the fashion sense of Dickie Greenleaf. Say hello to light, summery and preppy.

Dinner for Two: Meet the 1950s Housewife
This is Traci from BucktoothedBunny. Toni, the Bunny herself, is my sister. I’ve been helping her with her shop, so she talked me into being a guest curator.

The
1950s are typically remembered with a great deal of nostalgia. America
became very prosperous in the post-WWII years and the nation took the
center stage in world politics. Americans were very proud of their
country, and were determined to live happily in peace. Conformity was
the rule of the day and everyone had to play their part. Young people
were moving en masse to the suburbs, with everyone having their own
homes, cars, and all the latest gadgets available. This was a time when
the men worked and the women stayed home to tend the homes and families.
These women were expected to keep their homes immaculate and look great at all times.
In the summer, this would be the perfect dress for the typical 1950s housewife to wear in order to look great AND get all of the housework done. It would be unheard of for anyone to show up at her house and find her looking anything but her best. She must not forget to wear her pearls!!
If anyone should drop in, it was important to play the perfect hostess. Fresh flowers should be on hand to give the house a fresh, happy look. Refreshments for the housewife's guests are a must, even if it is just water with ice from your new Frigidaire!
While vacuuming, dusting, making beds, and cleaning all of her new kitchen gadgets, our housewife needed to look her best in one of her many pairs of pumps. Only the best for the lucky suburbanite! And really, who doesn’t clean in a pair of stiletto pumps?
If our housewife completed her chores in a timely manner, perhaps she could slip into a lovely swimsuit in order to soak up the rays. This way she could have a healthy glow when her husband arrived home from work.
With the house in perfect order, our housewife can begin work on dinner. Betty Crocker is a necessity for every housewife!!
Our housewife would have the table set and ready for her husband’s arrival. She just couldn’t keep him waiting after a long day!
With the table set, dinner ready, and a cocktail prepared for her man, our housewife waited at the door as he pulled into the driveway.
Ah, yes those were the days!

Get The Look

Privileged, wealthy and carefree, Marge lives in seaside Italy, all wrapped up in the affections of fellow rich kid Dickie Greenleaf (Jude Law).
The two have exiled themselves to their own lazy, perfect paradise, until — Cue the lonesome and mysterious stranger, Tom Ripley (Matt Damon), who changes everything.
Do yourself a favor and see this movie if you haven't. The plot will have you biting your nails all the way through. And Marge's style — with her light, preppy top, vintage swimsuit, full skirt and espadrilles — will have you coveting her closet. So here's how to get it.
I love the cotton candy colors of this button up blouse from ShopReinvintage. The blouse is light and fun and with great lines and absolutely Marge! And don't forget to tie up the front shirttails.

How to make a hand felted flower brooch
Hi. I'm Tonya Utkina of CityCrochet and I make brooches and beautiful things with felt. And it's really not that hard. Felting, in fact, is fun! It’s a very creative process that's also
eco-friendly and relatively simple. You won’t need any special equipment
of hard to find supplies, and the result will be a
beautiful accessory — like a hand felted flower brooch, a great addition to any party dress or holiday outfit. So grab some felt and let's get started.
First of all, you'll need felting wool in different colors. Felting wool can be purchased at Ben Franklin or a local craft shop, or on-line at AshlandBay.
For a flower brooch, create a few layers of felt to make the brooch soft and fluffy. To make each layer, lay the wool flat on a plastic surface, and wet it with warm water and soap. Try mixing together different colors of wool to create interesting color combinations. Hand felting is a little bit like painting: you mix the colors and get something amazing at the end!
For the wool to felt, press and stroke it gently with your palms, adding water and soap as needed. It will take a good 15 minutes for each layer to felt. When your piece of felted wool is firm enough so that fiber doesn't separate, your felted layer piece is ready.
Rinse your layers with water and squeeze them gently to get all the water out. Then take a break and let the layers dry. I normally leave my hand felted pieces overnight to dry well.
After your layers of felt have dried overnight, and they're completely dry and soft. It's time to create your brooch. Make your brooch unique by using beads, felted balls, buttons, wood pieces, and pretty much anything you find at home.
I like to attach big buttons in the middle of mine to make them look more like flowers. And don't forget to attach either a safety pin or a special brooch pin at the back of the brooch. These can be purchased at Ben Franklin or a local craft shop as well.
Felted flower brooches are great accessories that add style and color to any outfit. I promise you'll get noticed every time you wear one. And it's so rewarding to know that you make this chic and pretty item with your own hands. Congrats!

Breakfast at Tiffany's
Sometimes it's hard to decide what to wear or how to decorate. This series aims to make it a bit easier! We'll show you how to dress like your favorite star from a movie, or how to make your home as posh as your favorite TV show setting. Or how to go boho chic or do your bungalow up like a Paris apartment.
And what better way to start this off than with the super chic look worn by the iconic Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's? Let's break this look down, shall we?
You must start with the classic Little Black Dress. This movie made a staple of the LBD and it continues to be as important today as it ever was. Check out this cute number by Lucia Verona:
